Kita, Toshiyuki

Kita, Toshiyuki

Born in 1942, Toshiyuki Kita established his first design office in 1967, initially developing lifestyle goods and traditional handcraft products. In 1969 Toshiyuki Kita began his long association with Italian design brands, at first with furniture manufacturers, and later with lighting companies.

In 1990 Toshiyuki Kita won the Delta de Oro Award in Spain and in 1993 became guest Professor at University of Applied Arts Vienna. Many Toshiyuki Kita works are included in the permanent collections of Museums in the world, such us the Museum of Modern Art of New York and the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris.

Toshiyuki Kita is one of only three non-Italian designers to have won the prestigious International Compasso d’Oro Career Prize awarded by the Industrial Design Association (ADI). The International Compasso d’Oro Career Prize recognises the importance of Toshiyuki Kita’s work in today’s world. Toshiyuki Kita is revered by those companies that seek his services, but perhaps more importantly by the general public, who still marvel at the creations of a designer who connects the past with the future and East with West, through beauty and design.
